Disable Adobe Reader for Safari PDFs

If you absolutely MUST have Adobe Reader installed on your Mac, you probably hate how Adobe takes over Safari.  So anytime you view a PDF in Safari, you’ll have to load an Adobe plugin and slow your computer down to a halt… Yep, Adobe is great at making crapware!

To disable this junk, it’s super easy…

  1. Open up terminal
  2. Remove the following files from you “internet plug-ins” directory
    • AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    • AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    • AdobeAAMDetect.plugin

  3. You may also need to remove them from ~/Library as well
